A move to Inland Waters

Hi and welcome to the Blog space for Last Resort.

Last Resort is a 28Ft Princess 266 Riviera Motor Boat and our pride and joy. We have owned her for the last five years. Up until last Septmber we kept her on a mooring in Fareham, where over the years we have enjoyed several holidays to France, the Channel Islands and the West Country as well as some great trips across to the Isles of Wight.

We found though that the drive down to Fareham was a pain after a hard week and with the added complications of having to plan our timing in line with the tides, over the years used her less and less.

Kathie was keen to sell her and if I was thinking with my head rather than my heart had to agreed that it was the right decision. After a couple of months we hadn't had any serious buyers and so came up with the idea of moving her inland to where we live in Reading. Now we would be the first to admit that if you are looking for a boat to cruise the River Thames then a twin petrol enginned boat wouldn't be your first choice, but we already had the boat and so was just looking for a way of using her more often.

Over the winter we have spent a lot of time (and money) getting her back to the standard that she once was. The seaside elements had been at work and she required a lot of maintenance work to restore her to her former glory. In addition we were amazed at the alerations required in order to get the safety certificate for inland waterways craft.

So this is our first season of cruising the Thames. The idea of this blog is to record our experiences and observations of what the River Thames has to offer.
